Compulsory insurance (Povinné ručení)
This is a civil-liability policy that every owner of a car registered in the Czech Republic must have. It covers damage you cause to third parties — both to their health and their property. The amount of cover is set by the contract and depends on the chosen insurance company. Without a valid policy you cannot drive the car or pass a technical inspection.
This is a voluntary type of car insurance that protects your vehicle against risks not covered by compulsory insurance. Depending on the terms, the policy may include: compensation in case of car theft; coverage of damage in a road accident — whether caused by you or by another party; repair or replacement of damaged glass (windscreen, side and panoramic windows); damage caused by animals (for example, chewed wiring); collision with a wild animal; acts of vandalism; damage from natural disasters (fire, hail, flooding, etc.).
We also offer extended types of insurance that can be added to the basic policy:
- insurance for luggage kept in the car;
- protection for the driver and passengers in case of injury or death;
- a choice between basic or extended technical-assistance service;
- insurance for rims, tyres, mirrors and trim elements;
- cover for damage to the car caused by unknown persons.
What you need to arrange it
For a preliminary calculation of the policy cost, we’ll need:
-
a photo of both sides of the small vehicle registration document;
-
the owner’s first name, surname and birth number (Rodné číslo) in the Czech Republic;
-
if the car is registered to a company — the company’s IČO.
Tip: if you’re interested in KASKO insurance, the best option is to fill in the calculation form available on our website.
Why take out KASKO?
Many drivers wonder whether it’s worth taking out voluntary insurance if they already have compulsory cover. The answer is simple — KASKO protects your car and your budget. No compulsory insurance will cover damage to your own car if you cause an accident, hit an animal or suffer hail damage.
Planning to buy a car in the Czech Republic?
Before buying, we recommend:
-
Checking the VIN for any liens, leasing or restrictions;
-
Finding out the car’s usage history (mileage, accidents, damage) — this costs 200–500 CZK but will save you thousands;
-
Checking the real mileage at the last technical inspection (STK) — you’ll need the VIN and the protocol number.
In an accident and don’t know where the at-fault party is insured?
If the other driver refuses to show their green card, you can find out where their car is insured by its registration number — on the official website of the Czech Insurers’ Bureau.
Prices and an individual approach
The cost of car insurance is calculated based on:
- the driver’s age and experience;
- the vehicle’s year of manufacture and condition;
- the policy period (month, quarter, year);
- the desired options and coverage.
We don’t offer one-size-fits-all calculators. Instead — an individual offer and professional advice.
